What Should You Wear to Your Boudoir Session?

11 Questions you Need to Ask your Boudoir Photographer

What is a Boudoir session? How is it a Monumental Experience?

I'm a Los Angeles-based Boudoir photographer. As a sexual assault survivor, I have been on my own empowerment journey. And now, as a Boudoir photographer, I want to help other women embrace their bodies and sensuality.

Los Angeles Boudoir is one of the most diverse scenes due to the abundance of nature – there are mountains, the ocean, and everything in-between. During my Boudoir Session with H, we explored a canyon called Placeritas Canyon. The Natural Resource Center is home to a picnic area as well to a network of trails. For our session we stuck to the flat part of a trail and the picnic area.

The session itself was a lot of fun for me. H is a longshoreman. I personally had never met anybody who did this, so it was a lot of fun to learn about her journey within that profession, especially coming from an accounting background. Like many women, H has dealt with body image issues. Previously, she was overweight and now she is back to a healthy weight but is still suffering from saggy skin as a result of quick weight loss. Her story is super relatable to all women and that is why I wanted to share it. She shared that these photographs helped her change the way she viewed herself and were something she never thought she could have. So if nothing else, let this be a note to yourself. If you are thinking of doing a Los Angeles Boudoir session, just do it. Don’t let anything step in your way, especially your self-doubt! Next week, I will share more on why I believe every woman should do a Boudoir Session!

Prior to our Boudoir session, I scouted the area. I went on two separate trails, the first immediately sold me on the location. There were picture-perfect benches as well as massive trees. I love incorporating natural props into my sessions, so both of these were check marks in my column. Next, I went across the dry river bed to the other trails and found the trail we shot on.

This trail is pretty flat, which is ideal, so that neither I nor H was sweaty before the session started. We walked until we found the tree trunk I discovered when scouting the location. As an aside, this tree trunk is perfect for a Halloween Session as it literally looks like a scary mask.

H brought the perfect outfits for a Western, Cowboy themed Los Angeles Boudoir Session. We started out with a bra and jean shorts paired with a cowboy hat and beautiful cowboy boots. As we eased into the session, she took off the jean shorts, and rocked a matching bra and panty set. We started out using the funky tree stump. My favorite from this series is shown below, where H is holding the cowboy hat in her hand and the light hits her and the hat just right.

Afterwards, we continued on the trail until we found a fallen tree log. Logs are the perfect prop: you can walk along them, sit on them, and lie down on them. The light seeped through the trees, creating the perfect combination of light and shade.

We went back to the Placeritas Canyon Natural Resource Center to switch outfits. Afterward we headed over towards the picnic tables. While finding the perfect spot we saw three bobcat kittens lying on a stone. They were extremely cute and could not have been less bothered by us. Directly behind all the picnic tables was a gorgeous tree with a wide base to stand on. There were still leaves on the ground, which made a gorgeous backdrop.
