What Should You Wear to Your Boudoir Session?

11 Questions you Need to Ask your Boudoir Photographer

What is a Boudoir session? How is it a Monumental Experience?

I'm a Los Angeles-based Boudoir photographer. As a sexual assault survivor, I have been on my own empowerment journey. And now, as a Boudoir photographer, I want to help other women embrace their bodies and sensuality.

Now that we are thinking about Holiday Boudoir it is time to start thinking about your Valentine’s Boudoir Themes and Ideas! Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite Holidays, which is ironic because I used to hate Valentine’s Day, but I have come to realize that it is simply a Holiday about showing love to yourself and those around you. What is a better way to celebrate than a Boudoir photoshoot that encapsulates romance, confidence, personal improvement, and empowerment.

So whether or not you are looking up Valentine’s Boudoir Themes for yourself or to plan a gift for your partner, let’s work together to make it special. Without further ado, here are 5 brilliant themes. One of these is bound to fit your personality and style. Let’s dive right in and find the perfect Valentine’s Boudoir theme for you to make Valentine’s Day special.

You cannot go wrong with this Valentine’s Boudoir Theme if you love traditional romance. This theme is timeless. I would recommend incorporating rose petals, and delicate lace are an amazing combination and will create intimate and elegant Boudoir photographs.

I would recommend wearing red, pink or white lingerie that is either made out of lace or satin. If you want to add jewelry to this look, I would recommend simple jewelry that enhances the look.

For a classic look I would use plush blankets, satin sheets and rose petals. I would also choose a simple make-up look to match the theme. If you want to make it more bold, i would pair this look with a red lip.

If you are drawn to the finer things, a Glam Boudoir session is perfect for you. This theme is perfect for those who want a glamorous, elegant look.

For a glamorous Boudoir look, I would recommend going with jewel tones like emerald, navy blue, or burgundy. I would recommend intricate lace lingerie, satin or velvet lingerie. This look is best paired with accent jewelry.

Incorporate furniture with the same aesthetic – velvet couches, satin sheets, and chandeliers.

Celebrate this Valentine’s day with a Valentine’s Boudoir theme of self-love and centered on reconnecting with yourself and your gentle femininity. This is the perfect option for anybody focused on self-appreciation

I would recommend bringing one outfit that screams comfort and one that pushes you outside of your comfort zone. So for the comfortable outfit you could choose a soft sweater, cozy socks or a silky robe. I would go with pastel colors and earthy tones.

I would keep this set pretty simple and prioritize photographs that use mirrors to show self-reflection. I also love the idea of using fresh flowers in this session. You can personalize this session by incorporating “props” that are meaningful to you and your self-love journey.

If you prefer to stay mysterious or want an edgier look this Valentine’s Boudoir theme is for you! This session will be bold, alluring and perfect for capturing your powerful side.

I would wear dark and rich colors such as blacks, deep purples or burgundies to create a dramatic look. You could wear lace or leather and a bold make-up look for the added effect. A bold lipstick and defined make-up look adds a daring touch.

Minimize props so the focus is solely on you. Additionally if you use dramatic lighting this will add to the mysterious effect. Find the strength and allure in every pose, capturing both the shadow and the light.

A vintage-inspired Pin-up Valentine’s Boudoir theme brings a retro flirty twist to Valentine’s Day. This theme combines a nostalgic, cheeky charm that is flirty and playful.

High-waisted lingerie, polka dots, and bold, bright red lipstick channel the classic retro pin-up aesthetic. Additionally, you can do winged eyeliner and curl your hair.

If you want to incorporate simple props, you can use a vintage telephone of feather boas. Other props you can use are heart-shaped balloons, lollipops, or classic heels.

One of these five Valentine’s Boudoir Themes is perfect for everyone. Valentine’s Day is the perfect Holiday to personalize your Boudoir session and create a session that perfectly reflects your personality and style. All of these sets will encourage you to step into who you are and grow in your confidence, celebrating you, your beauty, and inner confidence.

Now onto some logistics

Valentine’s Boudoir is all about celebrating love – for yourself, a loved one, or both. This allows you to express yourself fully and gain confidence! In this setting you will be able to relax, have fun and create beautiful, intimate photographs that you will fall in-love with and cherish.

Even if it does not seem like it at first, Valentine’s Day is the perfect time for showing affection, and what better way to do so than by embracing self-love? And yes, I know traditionally it is affection towards a partner, but who says it has to be. Boudoir sessions help capture that inner beauty, confidence, and raw authenticity that make you, “you”.

Feeling a bit nervous? That’s totally normal! Honestly, it would be stranger if you were not. Here are some tips to help you get ready:

– Confidence Tips: Listen to music that makes you feel strong, and remind yourself why you booked the session, and remind yourself of reasons why you love yourself every day.

– Wardrobe Choices:  Choose outfits that reflect your personality, and bring a variety of options to switch things up during the shoot. I always recommend having an outfit that is less revealing so we can start with that while you are building up your confidence in front of the camera.

– Setting Expectations: Share any specific preferences with your photographer to make sure you’re comfortable throughout.

Boudoir photography is about embracing your unique beauty. When you feel excited and relaxed (which sound conflicting), your confidence shines through. A little self-love can go a long way toward capturing the authentic, beautiful “you”.

Wear something that makes you feel amazing! This could be anything from lace lingerie to a cozy sweater, depending on the look you are after.

You can always bring props that hold significance to you. Also the outfits you choose will reveal your personality.

It is totally normal and as a Boudoir photographer I am well equipped to handle this and make sure you walk away with gorgeous photographs.

Absolutely! Boudoir is for everyone.

One of the best ways to gift your Boudoir photographs is in an album or as a set of prints. My favorite is a custom made album. I like to design these with my clients and make sure there is plenty of space for them to add writing afterwards.
