Understanding Your Body Type

Understanding your body shape is the first step in choosing lingerie for your boudoir photography session that flatters and enhances your figure. Here’s a brief overview of common body types and the lingerie styles that work best for each:

If you have an hourglass figure, you’ll want to choose lingerie pieces that accentuate your natural curves. A few starting points are corsets, bustiers, and high-waisted panties. These items showcase your waist and allow your stunning figure to shine.

If you have a pear-shaped figure, choose lingerie pieces that showcase your upper body, such as lace bras or intricate tops. Pair these with simple bottoms to produce a balanced look that illuminates your upper body and compliments your entire body!

If your body shape is an “apple,” I recommend choosing lingerie that is balanced, drawing attention to both your upper and lower body. I would recommend high-waisted bottoms, which add shape, and choosing a well-fitting bra with an underwire will compliment your figure.

If you have a rectangular body, choose lingerie that draws attention to your waistline. Now, if you know me, you know that I am not typically a fan of low-waisted panties. But this is an exception to that rule. If you have a rectangular figure, I would recommend a longline bra or a bustier or corset that reaches your waist or just below. These pair beautifully with low-rise panties. A longline bra will help create the illusion of a defined-waistline.

If your figure is an inverted triangle, I would recommend sticking to a simpler bra or a plunge bra, that creates more shape. Choose lingerie that draws attention to your hips, whether this is due to the piece cinching at the waist or the style or fabric’s pattern.

Lace lingerie is and will always be a classic choice, and a reliable one. It is delicate and has an air of romance to it. So, if you don’t know what to bring, this is always a safe choice. But there are so many other appealing options for your boudoir photography shoot.

Sheer lace pieces take a playful or flirtatious approach to a different level. For example, a lace camisole or bodysuit provide coverage while seductively hinting at what’s underneath. Most lingerie styles have sheer options. This is the perfect lingerie for your boudoir photography shoot if you feeling sultry and a little more revealing. If you do not want your nipples showing in all of your lingerie options, this may not be the perfect lingerie for your boudoir photography shoot.

1. Structured and Shaping

Corsets and bustiers are perfect for providing support and enhancing your curves, making them ideal for a bold and dramatic boudoir look. Often bustiers and corsets are adjustable, which is perfect, so you can customize its fit to your body.

Choose corsets and bustiers with adjustable laces or hooks to ensure you achieve the perfect shape and comfort. A well-fitted corset or bustier can transform your figure and add a touch of glamour to your photos.

A teddy, also known as a bodysuit, is a one-piece that is often intricately designed, but comes in a number of styles and fabrics. Bodysuits are a fantastic choice for your Boudoir photography session; they come in so many different designs, you’ll be able to choose what look you are after, whether that be a sheer bodysuit or an embroidered bodysuit. Your piece could be as playful or elegant as you want.

Choose teddies or bodysuits made from comfortable fabrics with flattering designs. Look for designs that offer coverage while highlighting your figure, ensuring you feel confident and beautiful during your session.

If you are after an elegant look for your boudoir photographs, silk and satin are an amazing choice. These are luxurious fabrics that add a sophistication to your boudoir photographs.

Silk and satin lingerie is often looser, creating a softer, feminine energy that builds on your natural beauty.

Cotton and most stretchy fabrics offer more comfortability or breathability, which makes them perfect for anybody who strives for comfort during their Boudoir photography session. Cotton fabrics are perfect lingerie choices if you are after a more sporty, relaxed look. This is an underrated look if you ask me.

One of the beauties of buying cotton or other stretchy fabrics, is that it can be used more frequently outside of your Boudoir photography session, making it more practical.  One of the most sexy looks is the classic white cropped t-shirt, especially once we get it dripping. It will mold to your body beautifully, highlighting your stunning curves.

Read about the benefits of different fabrics in your lingerie here! For a boudoir photography session, this may not be critical, because you will not be wearing it for an extended duration. However, i want the lingerie you purchase for your photoshoot to be worn more frequently than this one instance.

Black and white lingerie are classic colors that compliment any studio space. These colors compliment all bodies, and are not distracting thus they do not detract from your beauty.

Nude and beige lingerie offers a more subtle and natural visual. These colors blend well with various skin tones and provide a more understated yet alluring option for your boudoir photographs.

Bold colors like red, burgundy, and navy can add a dramatic touch to your boudoir photography session. These vibrant, vivid colors are perfect if you are hoping to make a statement.

Pastel colors add a softer, more romantic look to your boudoir photographs. They are perfect for creating a delicate, dreamy atmosphere in your photographs.

Stockings and garter belts are classic accessories that add an extra layer of elegance and allure, creating a cohesive and polished look.

Stockings comes in various styles, including thigh-high stockings or full-length options, depending on the look you want to achieve in your Boudoir photography session. Make sure they fit comfortably and enhance your overall outfit.

I would suggest simple jewelry that compliments your lingerie. Over-the-top jewelry will detract from your outfit rather than compliment the lingerie or outfits you’ve chosen.

Your comfort level should be the number one priority when choosing your lingerie pieces for your Boudoir photography session. If you find the material irritating or if your lingerie does not fit properly, it will be annoying to constantly adjust or it will make you feel extremely uncomfortable during the session. Inevitably, this will affect your confidence. So, to make sure it fits well, try each piece on before your session.

To choose the perfect lingerie for your Boudoir photography session, make sure you are selecting pieces that are comfortable, compliment your body type, and make you feel confident. There is no right or wrong choice, so choose helps you embrace your inner badass.
