I have heard countless boudoir photographers discuss plus size bodies weirdly. They start acting like they cannot refer to body parts as simply body parts. As if they are foreign. At ELI Boudoir, at the studio, on my website, in every email I send, the language I use around bodies is consistent and intentional. I do not compliment my clients in ways that carry any undertones. I will not volunteer opinions about what bodies should look like or what your boudoir outfits should obscure. This sounds basic and it should be common practice. However, it is surprisingly rare in the boudoir industry. My clients consistently comment on how different the environment working with me at ELI Boudoir is as a result.
My philosophy when it comes to editing plus size boudoir photography is simple. I do not alter the shape or size of your body. I will happily remove temporary blemishes like a pimple. I will add my signature touch that will have your skin glowing. But I refuse to slim your waist, reduce the size of your arms, flatten your stomach, or reshape any part of your body in post-processing.
It might sound like a small ask, but by making these kinds of modifications, you are now finding newfound confidence in a body that is not yours. This matters because the purpose of plus size boudoir photography is to show you brown beauty. To help you find the beauty within your actual body. Photographs that have been digitally altered to look like a different body entirely, cannot do that. They show you a fairytale. A version of your body that is false. I want to say this explicitly, because I truly think it matters: the way I photograph a plus size client is not fundamentally different from the way I photograph any other client. Yes, there might be some posing adjustments we make due to body limitations. For example, if you have big boobs and certain poses lying on your back make you feel like you are suffocating, we will not do them, or we will do an adaptation. But overall, my style does not change. My standards are not lower. My creative vision is not vastly different. There is not a separate version of your boudoir experience that you get as a plus size woman or person. I will work my hardest to make you feel as beautiful as you should.
This probably sounds obvious. It should be. But to be frank, I have watched the way some photographers in the boudoir industry talk about plus size boudoir photography: the special techniques, the extensive effort to minimize curves and your natural weight, and the implication that photographing a larger body means that the photoshoot is centered around a problem to be solved rather than a body to be celebrated. That is honestly infuriating to me. It treats plus size boudoir clients as a technical challenge, rather than another woman walking into the studio who wants to be captured beautifully as art. As another person who is worthy of stunning photographs that steal their breath.

A post that feels more natural to one body might need minor adjustments for another - that is true for every boudoir session I photograph, at every size. Literally for every body type. Your reveal and ordering appointment will take place two to three weeks after your session. My editing will highlight your features and make you look phenomenal without removing any features that tell your story. Many of my plus size boudoir clients describe the gallery reveal as the most powerful part of their plus size boudoir photography experience. Most of my boudoir clients create heirloom albums or fine art products that cement their newfound power. These images will outlast the fears you had about your plus size boudoir photoshoot, and you will return to them for the rest of your life.
All of my plus size boudoir photoshoots run 2-3 hours. Any outdoor location we visit has been carefully scouted. If you are interested in doing an outdoor boudoir shoot, I recommend scheduling it during the week. Often popular areas are quieter! I have a portable tent, so you will have somewhere private to change no matter where we are. All you need to do is arrive and simply be yourself. I will guide you through posing with body positive language and specific, encouraging direction. You will never be left wondering what to do with your hands or any body parts.

At ELI Boudoir, I offer optional consultations. As a boudoir photographer, I have learned that the majority of my clients would prefer not to talk on the phone before their photoshoot. However, I want my clients to have the option to jump on the phone and dispel any lingering nerves.
On the phone call, we will openly discuss any concerns you harbor, your intentions, comfortability, physical considerations, and where you want to shoot. Studio? Beach? Canyon? Rooftop? A combination? We design the session around you from the start — including which setting will make you feel the most at ease and the most beautiful.
If you opt out of the phone consultation, when you book your boudoir photoshoot, you can tell me your preference. The default is to shoot at the beautiful studio, which is just outside Culver City in Los Angeles.
