Bridal Boudoir – Why 100% of Brides Should Do a Boudoir Session

Los Angeles Boudoir Photography

As a Los Angeles boudoir photographer, I can confidently say that a bridal boudoir shoot is one of the most empowering experiences a bride, like yourself, can have leading up to her wedding day. If you’re on the fence about whether to do one, let me tell you why a luxury bridal boudoir experience is worth it! I can guarantee you will never regret investing in bridal boudoir photos.

Getting married is a momentus occasion that only happens once. It deserves to be celebrated to the fullest extent. Your wedding is special for so many reasons, and can very easily begin to feel like a hectic day where there is not enough time for yourself. A bridal boudoir experience is so much more than simply a boudoir shoot. It is about taking a moment for yourself amongst all of the planning and chaos. About celebrating who you are and how far you have come. And last but not least, it is a fun and unique wedding gift for your fiancé.

Your wedding boudoir photos should reflect your personality and who you are. They should encapsulate your strength, boldness, softness, your story, and self-love and acceptance.

If this resonates with you, I would love to connect and create your dream bridal shoot. You can reach out to me over text 213-513-6088 or email me at info@eliboudoir.com.

The majority of brides who do bridal sessions, gift their boudoir photographs to their partner on the morning of their wedding. Close your eyes for a second and picture their surprise when they open that album, when they see you photographed in an intimate, sensual, and sophisticated way. The gift of boudoir photographs, is personal, thoughtful, totally unforgettable and shows immense trust. To make it even more special, you can wear your wedding lingerie or bring your partner’s clothing to your session. There are so many ways to incorporate them, whether it is their clothing, their favorite color, their favorite set of your lingerie.

Boudoir photography is not solely about the final photographs.  Rather it is about the experience. It is going to feel intimidating at first, at least it does for most women, but that is when the magic takes place. Once you start warming up, getting used to being in front of the camera, trusting that I will guide you through the entire session and make sure you look amazing, you will feel so powerful and in control. I will hold your hand from start to finish, but you get to control how bold or playful you want to be.

If it is an outdoor boudoir session on the beach and you want to dance around in your lingerie, be my guest, and similarly if you want to wear bold red lipstick the whole time, go for it.

The confidence from a bridal session is long-lasting. Beyond just the photographs, there is a level of confidence and self-assurance that comes from being able to do the boudoir session in the first place. So, whether you are in gorgeous lingerie or cozied up in a blanket on your couch, you get to showcase your true, unfiltered self and remember that you did that. A lot of women just dream about it, but are too fearful to actually hire the photographer and do the session. So, if you take the steps to hire a boudoir photographer, like myself at ELI Boudoir, you should already be proud of yourself.

To be frank, the average woman is worried about looking awkward and feeling uncomfortable in front of a camera. This is amplified when, you are wearing your lingerie in front of the camera. To be completely transparent, that feeling may never go away, at least the anticipatory anxiety. Every client I have had, has expressed that initially they were worried and unsure about doing a boudoir session, but working with me during their session, made them feel beautiful, sexy, and empowered.

As a bride, this might be the perfect opportunity to to familiarize yourself with the camera and get more confident in front of it before your wedding. The nerves and discomfort in front of the camera has everything to do with the photographer behind it.

Wedding photography anxiety is a totally normal experience. So much so that The Knot wrote an article on it.

Every woman’s femininity means something different to her, and thus how you choose to express it will vary. A bridal photoshoot allows you complete control over how your sensuality is presented. Some women prioritize wedding-day detail shots, those with her veil or wedding shoes. Whereas, other women opt for an outdoor boudoir session that allows them to reconnect with nature, and highlight their inquisitive personality. Other ways to personalize your bridal boudoir session is to include props. Your prop could be anything from your fiancé’s favorite book or an article of their clothing.

This is often overlooked, but I love incorporating an item of your fiancé’s clothing or one of their favorite hobbies in your bridal boudoir shoot.

You could use one of their button downs, an oversized shirt or jacket. If they are a sports enthusiast, you could bring their favorite player’s jersey to your shoot.

Or you could include one outfit that is their favorite color.

The most popular ways to gift bridal boudoir photos are heirloom albums, folio boxes, or a customized flash drive.

The majority of my bridal boudoir clients select heirloom albums. These are timeless and feel luxurious in your hands. You can further customize your album with different leather covers or choose to feature your favorite bridal boudoir photo on the front cover.

You could also opt for a folio box with ten or twenty matted prints.

Choose the perfect time to give your fiancé your bridal boudoir gift.

Here are some. of my favorite moments:

  • The night before your wedding or at your rehearsal dinner
  • The morning of your special wedding day
  • At the start of your honeymoon
  • On your first wedding anniversary

Thoughtful touches really elevate gifts, especially one as meaningful as a bridal boudoir album or folio box.

Here are my favorite ways to further personalize your gift:

  • Include a handwritten note or love letter to your now husband of wife
  • Spritz the wrapping in your favorite scent
  • you could print out or write your vows, or your favorite quote that reminds you of your partner, or a favorite lyric from your first dance song.
  • You could include some of your bridal flowers in your gift

After your boudoir session, we will go through every photograph together and choose your favorites. Those favorites will go into a 10×10 heirloom album custom designed just for you. My favorite part of an album, is that it reminds you of your power and confidence, and doubles as a sexy gift for your fiancé that is a token of your love.

If an album is not your cup of tea, then don’t fret. I also create custom wall art and print boxes. A matted print box is a custom fit fabric box containing six to thirty prints. This option allows you to be even more selective if you want to be.

To further personalize your boudoir album, I love to include messages from you to your fiancé. This could be one main message at the start or end of the album, or little messages throughout.  This also demonstrates to your partner, how much effort and thought went into this gift.

Boudoir is a deeply intimate and personalized experience. It is not a one size fits all experience. You need a bridal boudoir photographer who will approach your session with care. If you are not based in Los Angeles and are searching for a bridal boudoir photographer elsewhere, here is what you need to know.

  1. Find a photographer whose style matches your boudoir vision.
    • This is true across different types of photography, but especially within boudoir photography, make sure you look at the boudoir photographer’s portfolio. If you do not like a boudoir photographer’s portfolio, you are not going to get the desired bridal boudoir experience or bridal boudoir photos.
  2. Schedule your bridal boudoir shoot at least 2-3 months before your wedding.
    • Planning 2-3 months before your wedding, guarantees ample time to select your bridal boudoir photos, select what heirloom albums or wall art products you want, retouch your bridal boudoir photos and deliver the final product. As a bridal boudoir photographer, i would advise against rushing any part of this experience.
  3. Make sure you invest in hair and make-up for your bridal boudoir shoot.
    • While you are fully capable of doing your hair and make-up, you deserve a full day of being pampered. Hiring a professional hair and make-up artist, guarantees you will look and feel your best throughout your bridal boudoir shoot.
  4. Communicate with your boudoir photographer beforehand.
    • Make sure they know of any boundaries you have. If you don’t want to do any poses that show off a particular part of your body, make sure your photographer knows that.

Read this blog post about when to schedule your bridal boudoir photoshoot to get more in-depth information about how to perfect the timing of your bridal boudoir experience to guarantee a stress-free bridal boudoir shoot.

If the thought of doing a Bridal Boudoir session has crossed your mind, my advice is simply to go for it! You’ll walk away feeling confident, empowered, and ready to start the next phase of your life.

As much as a bridal boudoir experience can be a gift to your fiancé, it is a much bigger gift to yourself. It allows your to preserve who you are right now. To honor your relationship to yourself and to remember how much this time of your life lights you up.

It is your moment, and you should feel every bit as beautiful and confident as you truly are.

Do I need to be a model or look like a model to do boudoir?

Absolutely not. Boudoir and bridal boudoir is an experience that all women should have. If a bridal boudoir photographer tries to tell you that you do not have the “right” body for boudoir, you need to find a new boudoir photographer. All bodies should do a bridal boudoir shoot if they want to. Secondly, you do not need any posing experience. I will guide you through each pose from how to position your body to where to place tour fingertips.

What is a Bridal Boudoir Shoot?

Bridal boudoir is a powerful photoshoot experience where you get to celebrate who you are, your beauty, your body, your sensuality, your personality and your journey. Boudoir can be an experience just for yourself. Or you can create a gift for your spouse that will have their jaw on the floor.

What should I wear to my bridal boudoir experience?

A lot of brides wear primarily white and other delicate colors like light blue lingerie. I personally think the only requirement is that your outfits make you feel confident, and are infused with your essence. I recommend that all of my boudoir clients bring 6-7 outfits to their bridal boudoir shoot. Bringing 6-7 outfits guarantees we have plenty of options and variety. We will get through a minimum of 5 outfits during your photoshoot!

I am feeling nervous about doing boudoir. Is that normal?

Absolutely! Nerves are a normal part of this process. Most of my boudoir clients walk into the studio a little nervous. These are mostly anticipatory nerves that dissipate as soon as we start shooting. All of my boudoir client’s walk out of the studio feeling anything other than excited to see their boudoir photographs.

Can I use these bridal boudoir photos as a wedding gift?

Definitely. Bridal boudoir photos make a fabulous wedding gift. One your spouse will certainly never forget. Lots of my brides gift their bridal boudoir photos as a heirloom album on the morning of their wedding day or the start of their honeymoon.

Here are six creative ways to gift your bridal boudoir photos!
