What Should You Wear to Your Boudoir Session?

11 Questions you Need to Ask your Boudoir Photographer

What is a Boudoir session? How is it a Monumental Experience?

I'm a Los Angeles-based Boudoir photographer. As a sexual assault survivor, I have been on my own empowerment journey. And now, as a Boudoir photographer, I want to help other women embrace their bodies and sensuality.

Christmas Boudoir sessions are some of my favorite, but if you cannot afford a professional Boudoir session this holiday season, then here are some fun and festive Christmas Boudoir ideas for you to shoot on your own! When you put these Christmas Boudoir Ideas into action, make sure you take a video and then screenshot the best moment. While you are videoing play around with your hand placements and my best advice is keep moving around.

  1. Wrap Christmas lights around your body
  2. Putting lights up on your Christmas tree
    • You can play around with different angles and from various distances. This pose can be sexy up close and from a wide angle.
    • This is a very easy pose to make anonymous. Your outfit can be the highlight of this pose!
    • You can go up on your tippy toes and put the camera down low so your figure is accentuated.
  3. Putting lights up around your house
  4. Hold baubles over your boobs
  5. Place the light going from behind the camera to you, creating a leading line and make a sultry face.
  6. Place the camera behind your Christmas tree
    • you are in-between all the leaves.
    • you are dancing between the leaves
  7. Kneel in front of your Christmas tree and place baubles in the tree. I usually tell my clients to sit with their toes together and form a triangle with their knees out further.
  8. Placing the star on the top of the Christmas tree. I recommend taking this Boudoir photo from either a distance or a low angle.
  9. Use red ribbon to create handcuffs. This Boudoir pose is a little more racey!
    • Place your hands behind your back
    • Pose kneeling on the ground with your hands out in front of you.
    • Up against the wall with your hands outstretched in front of you
    • Hold your hands in front of your face
    • Tie the handcuffs with long tails and pretend to untie it with your teeth
    • You can sit with your legs spread far apart and put your hands in front of your panties (or lack thereof)
  10. Smell the Christmas tree
    • This Christmas Boudoir photograph could be a close up of your nose down
      • You could be biting a lip or pulling your lip down with your fingers.
    • You could also take this photograph from a low angle and capture your booty in the photo.
    • You could also take a Boudoir photograph through the Christmas tree ferns
  11. Hold a bauble out in front of your face
  12. Lie amongst scattered baubles on the ground
  13. Read books in front of the Christmas tree.
  14. Sit on your couch or in front of your Christmas tree and fill a stocking
  15. Pose normally in front of your Christmas tree so it is in the background

    • You can put it in front of your eyes and nose and have you biting a lip showing underneath.
  24. Dance in front of the Christmas tree
    • If you have ever taken a heels routine, you can practice in front of the Christmas tree and take Boudoir photos of that

    • You can wrap them around your forearms and have them illuminate your figure.
  26. Take photos of you slipping out of your clothes – your jeans, your sweater
  27. Use Christmas themed scrunchies to tie your hair up

  36. With a garland held out towards

A Boudoir photo shoot can look like a number of things, but most importantly it will be catered to you and what you want out of your Boudoir session. At ELI Boudoir, you will have 3 outfits/looks at minimum and 1.5-2 hours. I know a 2 hour Boudoir shoot sounds like a long time, but once we start the time will fly back. 2 hours ensures that we are never rushed and that we can get every photograph we are after. You will walk into your photoshoot a little nervous, and leave confident with a pep in your step. The outfits you choose are totally up to you, but of course I will provide guidance and can help suggest stores to buy lingerie at! I love being a stylist for my clients as well as a photographer.

The best outfit is dependent on you and what makes you feel confident. Across the board, high-waisted panties are more flattering than low-waisted panties. I am a big fan of bodysuits and think they are stunning on everybody. You do not have to wear lingerie to your Boudoir shoot. The only outfit requirement is that you feel confident and powerful in it. I have clients who bring dresses, blazers, jeans, baggy shirts, skirts, and anything in-between.

There are no strict rules, but the linked blog post has some good guidelines. My recommendation is to try every piece of lingerie on and think about what parts of your body you want to accentuate.

Let’s do it. Outdoor Boudoir photoshoots is one of my favorite kind of shoots. Outdoor Boudoir in Los Angeles is an amazing option. We have the beach and mountainous locations. So, any outdoor boudoir look you are after we can find. Connecting with yourself while in nature is such an empowering feeling.

A Boudoir photoshoot allows you to connect with yourself on a deeper level. Very few of us, get to see ourselves in this light and step into our power. Obviously, Boudoir is an extremely vulnerable, intimate experience. Even if you do not believe that you will walk away from your Boudoir photoshoot more confident, it will. I firmly believe, Boudoir is something that all women should do at least once in their life. It just requires you to take a chance and trust that your Boudoir photographer knows what they are doing. The most important thing is to work with a photographer who makes you feel comfortable.
